Urgent Virus Alert!!

As you are probably aware from the media reports, a new, extremely damaging Ransomware security threat “Petya” is sweeping across the world at present.

You can read more about it here: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2017/06/petya-ransomware-outbreak-goes-global)

As usual nothing beats common sense in combating these threats, but simple things to implement are:

  • Do not open any emails from unknown sources.
  • Do not open unexpected emails from known sources especially if they contain links and/or attachments – better to miss a message than destroy all your data.
  • If a Word, Excel or PowerPoint email attachment advises you to “enable macros” to view its content, do not select OK or Enable even from trusted sources.
  • Do not click on links within websites when you’re not sure of the source of those links.
  • Make sure your backups are working and that they are current – this may be your only ‘get out of jail’ card.
