The end of the financial year is fast approaching. Businesses now have less than two weeks to sort out anything that needs to be done by then. Today I’m going to discuss two big changes that need to be sorted by the end of next week.
Increase to the Minimum Wage
The Minimum Wage will increase on the 1st of April 2019 to $17.70 per hour. This is an increase of $1.20 per hour. The Starting Out and Training Wages will correspondingly rise to remain at 80% of the Minimum Wage at $14.16 per hour.
Hopefully I’ve written about this one enough over the past six months that everyone is already on board. If not, please get onto it immediately. While there are exceptions which could allow you to evade filing your employee details electronically, the amount of work that doing so manually within 7 days of each payday would entail makes these exceptions redundant in our view. You might as well just get on board with electronic filing if you’re not already. And if you have payroll software please check that it will accommodate payday filing, most of them will but you may need an update. Mandatory Payday Filing starts on the 1st of April as well.
If you are unsure about either of these changes please feel free to contact us as soon as possible
